A History of Excellence
Dr. Hyams has worked in leading institutions with true giants in the surgery, pathology, and oncologic care of cancer patients.
In his residency, he was trained by two of the nation’s best known endocrine surgeons. This early experience has been augmented by his fellowship training and many subsequent years of endocrine surgical patient care.
During his 3 years at the U.S. National Cancer Institute, Dr. Hyams had access to an enormous clinical caseload of melanoma, sarcoma, breast and endocrine patients. In the NCI Surgery Branch, he was exposed to some of the first successful immune cell mediated treatment of melanoma.
Dr. Hyams’ own research activities focused on the use of monoclonal antibodies to both diagnose and treat cancer, giving him important early perspective on their now widespread utility.
Through his time in the leadership of the NSABP breast cancer research organization, Dr. Hyams participated in paradigm-changing clinical studies that revolutionized the treatment of breast and bowel cancer.
Dr. Hyams brings all of this, as well as 30 years of practice expertise, to the modern surgical management of patients with cancer and endocrine disease in the Coachella Valley.
ONE ON ONE PERSONAL CARE
At a time when most practitioners are joining large health systems, Dr. Hyams has countered this trend, leaving large medical center clinics to practice highly personalized surgical care in a community setting. Without obligations to corporate ownership, he is personally responsible for the management and satisfaction of his patients.
“I am always the person called when a patient has a care-related issue, coordinating care at any time, from virtually any place.”
Yet, because of his ongoing academic activities, Dr. Hyams maintains a worldwide network of colleagues and advisors who represent the best of specialty cancer care.
